— Turner School District students twice this week reported incidents of strangers approaching them in the district.

It is unclear if the incidents are related, District Administrator Dennis McCarthy said. No suspects have been reported, he said.

According to a letter district officials sent home Tuesday:

-- 9:15 a.m. Sunday at Park and Elmwood avenues. A bearded, white man with reddish-brown hair stopped and told three girls to get in the car because it was too cold to be walking. The man drove a dark-blue PT Cruiser with a brown stripe. The girls refused and reported the incident to a parent, who then reported the incident to the Town of Beloit Police Department.

-- 3:40 p.m. Monday 2400 block of East-West Hart Road. A middle-aged white male with brown hair followed two middle school girls when they got off the bus. The man drove an older red sedan with side-tinted windows. He followed the girls for a short distance before trying to drive in front of them and block their path. The students ran to a neighbor’s home and reported the incident to the Rock County Sheriff’s Department.

This sounds very similar to a report that was on the national news a few weeks ago, which included an interview of two middle-school aged girls who were kidnapped (by strangers who offered them a ride on a rainy day) and forced to act as child prostitutes through threats of harm to them and their families, as well as constant supervision by adults who kept them in locked rooms, etc. Parents no longer just have the random isolated pedophile to worry about -- some creeps are seeing kids as a business opportunity.

Turner did a great job informing parents of this. I read about it first on Face Book but received my phone call from the school before my 6 year old daughter was dropped off at the bus stop. As soon as she came into the house she handed me the note and said, "this is very important and you have to read it".

The first one doesn't sound as creepy as the second report.
