Democrat John Heckenlively said he won’t know until Friday whether his name will appear on the November ballot.

Heckenlively is the only Democrat with hopes of challenging incumbent Republican Paul Ryan for the House seat.

Some of Heckenlively’s nominating petitions were not properly filled out, he said, but Government Accountability Board officials told him the problems are correctable.

Officials told him that if the problems are fixed, he would have the 1,000 required signatures. They gave him a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday to fix the problems, which involves incomplete dates on the forms.

Heckenlively said Wednesday he is optimistic but won’t be sure until his nomination forms are approved.

Heckenlively, of Racine, has said he decided last Friday to run. Tuesday was the deadline for submitting the nominating petitions.

The only other candidates are Kenosha Libertarian Joe Kexel and Bill Tucker, an independent from New Berlin.

Ryan, of Janesville, has been elected to the seat every two years since 1998.
