Gabrielle Cassady can add another first-team All-Big Eight Conference softball selection to her resume.

Janesville Craig High School’s catcher has earned first-team honors for the third straight season by vote of league coaches. Cassady is joined on the 13-member first team by teammates Haley Bayreuther and Erica Mortensen.

Seven Cougars have received all-conference honors after Craig went 16-2 and shared the Big Eight title with Verona. The Cougars finished 20-5, earning the first 20-win season in school history.

Cassady, who has a scholarship to play softball at UW-Green Bay, led the Cougars in batting average (.403), doubles (6), RBIs (29), slugging percentage (.583) and on-base percentage (.489). She had one of the team’s two homers, and had two triples.

Defensively, she had 21 assists and threw out three runners attempting to steal.

Cassady finished her career as Craig’s all-time leader in hits (105), triples (13), doubles (16) and RBIs (75). She ranks second all-time in runs scored (74) and fourth all-time with 41 walks.

Cassady and senior outfielder Kelly Moench also have earned academic all-state honors.

Bayreuther, the daughter of Craig coach Dan Bayreuther, is the all-conference shortstop.

The sophomore led the Cougars in runs (27), hits (34), singles (33) and stolen bases (18). Her .386 batting average ranked second to Cassady, and she had an on-base percentage of .439.

Mortensen hit .268, with a slugging percentage of .352. The senior outfielder had 19 hits, including two doubles and two triples, and scored 14 runs. She had a .976 fielding percentage.

Two Craig sophomores, outfielder Stephanie Perleberg and pitcher Paige Weber, have received second-team honors.

Perleberg hit .354 with a .451 slugging percentage, and tied Cassady for second place on the team with 29 hits. She also had 14 stolen bases.

Weber went 14-4 with a 1.47 ERA in 109 2/3 innings. She had two shutouts, while striking out 94 and allowing just 16 walks.

Senior infielder Lindsay Oliver, and senior outfielder Kelly Moench earned honorable mention.

Four Janesville Parker players have received honorable mention. They are junior infielder Cierra Carney, junior outfielders Lauren Brooks and Jackie Ludois and sophomore utility player Ashley Ross.
