— Nick Melton is Melta bound.

The Orfordville Parkview senior sharpshooter has accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Kishwaukee College in Melta, Ill.

Kishwaukee College is one of the top teams in the nation this season at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II level.

Melton was the Rock Valley South Conference Player of the Year last year and finished second in scoring this season after averaging better than 22 points a game.

Melton said the opportunity to play immediately and the quality of the program made the college choice an easy one.

“The coach told me that I would have a chance to step in and play right away, and that was really important,” Melton said. “He said after I signed that he wasn’t going to pursue another point guard. That meant a lot.

“I’ll get a chance to play some point and also may be a little bit of two guard. I’m excited and ready to get to work. I plan to spend a lot of time on my ballhandling skills because the college game is a whole nother level.”
