WCLO's Steve Benton reports the first signs of spring may include the end of the H1N1 virus

ROCK COUNTY — One of the signs of spring is the robin. This year, it may also signify the end of the H1N1 threat.

Rock County Health Officer, Karen Cain, says "the C.D.C. is reporting very low incidences of H1N1 infection around the nation." She says Wisconsin is reporting very low numbers too.

Over the season, Cain says they've given out over 10,000 vaccinations for the H1N1 virus and they're still getting a few walk-in requests.

Cain says the H1N1 strain that was present over the last several months was weaker than first thought and more like the seasonal flu. But not knowing how virile the virus would be, she feels the C.D.C. did the right thing by sounding the alarm last year. She says "it's always better to be safe than sorry."

As far as a possible resurgence of the H1N1 virus in the fall, Cain says health officials just don't know, but it's a possibility.
