WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the kick-off of this year's effort to stop the Emerald Ash Borer from spreading

RSS

— Rock County residents are reminded about the state's efforts to stop the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer as we approach the Memorial Day weekend.

State spokesman, Plant Pest and Disease Specialist, Mick Skwarok, says the Emerald Ash Borer was first identified in the Detroit area in 2002. The first infestations in Wisconsin were found in 2008.

Currently there are three areas described as infested, and an 11 county quarantine on the movement of firewood. Skwarok says the Memorial Day weekend is sometimes looked at as the beginning of the camping season and a good time to update the public about the Emerald Ash Borer.
