Craig-Parker tickets on sale

Tickets for Friday night’s football showdown between Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker at Monterey Stadium are being sold in advance.

Sales at both schools will continue from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students of high school age and younger. This is the Cougars’ home game, so Craig students with an athletic pass will not have to buy a ticket.

Tickets also will be sold at the gate before and during the game.

— Dorothy Gorman is not color blind.

Nor is looking fashionable high on her list.

So if you see a woman walking around Monterey Stadium on Friday night wearing an assortment of blues, whites, greens and golds, don't call the fashion police.

Gorman is simply showing her allegiance to her grandchildren.

In the crosstown football showdown between Janesville Craig and Janesville Parker, Gorman and her husband, David, will have four grandchildren suited up for the varsity game. Dan Treinen starts in the secondary, Mitch Treinen is the back-up quarterback and Jake Welch plays on special teams for Parker, while grandson Nick Gorman is a starting cornerback for Craig.

That poses a number of problems for Dorothy and her husband heading into Friday night.

Where to sit?

What to wear?

Whom to cheer for?

"I might sit on each side for one half. I haven't decided yet," Gorman said. "I did find something to wear that shows support for each team, so that's one less thing to worry about. Cheering comes down to hoping that no one gets hurt and they play their best when they're in there.

"I'm excited, but at the same time, I'm kind of sad because one team is gonna win, and one team is gonna lose. They don't let games end in a tie anymore."

This will be the first time the four grandsons have played against each other on the same field. Riley Quinn, a linebacker and running back for Craig, is Dorothy's niece's son. That means five cousins could be across from one another at some point Friday night.

Dan and Mitch Treinen are the sons of Joe and Sharon Treinen. Sharon is David and Dorothy's oldest daughter. Jake Welch is the son of Jim and Nancy Welch, the youngest daughter of David and Dorothy.

Nick Gorman is the son of Betsy and John Gorman, Dorothy and David's only son and oldest child.

"I just think it's exciting that they're all on the varsity," Dorothy said. "I don't always see how they're doing during the game because things seem to be happening really fast. A lot of times we have to look at it on tape."

Dan is a senior, Nick and Jake are juniors, and Mitch is a freshman.

Dave and Dorothy obviously can't be in two places at once. They attend all home games at Monterey and are able to listen to the pod casts on WCLO when the other school is playing out of town.

Dorothy said that, since this is the first time the four grandsons have played against each other in the same game, there hasn't been a lot of trash-talking or bickering at any previous family functions. That could change after Friday night.

"Usually, when we get together, I'll hear one of the grandsons tell another one that they saw them make a good play or a good tackle on tape," Dorothy said.

"I'm sure after Friday's game, it will be different, especially for Dan. He's a senior, and this is his last chance to play football against Craig. But I won't be cheering any harder for Parker than Craig. That's not fair to Nick."

Cost of admission Friday night=$3.

Cost of rounding up something to wear=$20.

Cost of watching four grandsons play against each other=priceless.

Mrs. Gorman you are quite the inspiration.
More parents and grandparents need to get behind the kids during all school programs. Good job!
