— Authorities closed Highway 26 near Milton on Monday night while they arrested a Milton man accused of drunken driving and hit-and-run.

At about 8 p.m., Monday, police responded to a report that a Jeep Cherokee SUV crashed into a street light pole at the intersection of Arthur Drive and Brown Drive.

Before police arrived, the driver reportedly fled the accident in his vehicle, traveling north through the city on Highway 26, according to Milton police reports. The driver then crashed into two traffic signs before he pulled over near Highway 59, police said.

During the incident, Milton police and Rock County sheriff’s deputies blocked a section of Highway 26 and performed a tactical traffic stop, according to Milton police reports.

Officers arrested James W. Falk, 58, Milton. Falk had a concealed weapon, a knife, but he was taken into custody without incident, Milton Police Chief Jerry Schuetz said.

Falk was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon and cited for drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

He was treated at Edgerton hospital for minor injuries from the crashes, and was turned over to the Rock County Jail pending a court appearance.
