45th Assembly recount to happen this week

Rock and Walworth counties this week will conduct recounts of the results of the Republican primary election in the 45th Assembly District.

Candidate Jeff Klett on Tuesday filed the necessary paperwork to conduct the recount. Klett took second to Amy Loudenbeck by 19 votes.

The Walworth County recount will start at 9 a.m. Friday at the Walworth County Government Center, 100 W. Walworth Street, Elkhorn. The Rock County recount will start at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Rock County Courthouse, 51 S. Main St., Janesville. The events are open to the public.

Richmond Township is the only municipality in Walworth County included in the 45th District. In Rock County, the district includes the city of Beloit, a slice of the east side of the city of Janesville, the village of Clinton and Clinton, Bradford, La Prairie and Turtle townships.

The winner of the recount will face Democrat Roger Anclam in the race to replace Democrat Chuck Benedict of Beloit.
