Parker third in scramble
Janesville Parker opened its girls golf season by finishing third in the Elkhorn Invitational at Evergreen on Thursday.
The event was a four-player scramble. Brookfield East finished first with a 66, while Badger was second with 69.
Parker seniors Taylor Utzig, Maggie O'Leary, Nicole Fugate and Stephanie Ahrens combined to shoot a 72 for a third-place finish.
Parker coach Mary Ross said the play of Fugate and Ahrens was impressive.
"Maggie and Taylor are always in the mix," Ross said. "It's a new year, and we lost a couple of senior leaders from last year, so I was proud of the way (Fugate and Ahrens) played. All the seniors played well together.
"We left a couple of putts out there, but it was a good start."
Badger golfers were Annie Gaugert, Lana Weiseman, Kate Russell and Allison Paleka.
East Troy and Elkhorn each finished in a tie for fifth with 74, and Lakeside Lutheran finished seventh.
The Vikings will participate in the Edgewood Invitational today at Yahara Hills.
