Rock County Gladiators’ rally falls short

— The Rock County Gladiators were held scoreless Saturday through the first three quarters en route to a 28-14 loss to the Twin City Dogs in a Great Midwest Football League regular-season finale.

The Gladiators trailed 21-0 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 21-14. Rock County attempted an onside kick, but Twin City recovered and marched for the final score of the game.

Rock County quarterback Dan Roberts completed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Janesville Parker High School graduate Jermar Ayers and a 2-yard touchdown pass to Nate Wallman.

Roberts completed 18 of 27 passes for 207 yards, with two interceptions. Roberts was the Gladiators’ leading rusher, gaining 49 yards on nine carries.

Ayers caught six passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Shane Martin and Tyler Lawrence each intercepted a pass.

The loss snapped Rock County’s winning streak at seven games as the Gladiators finish the regular season 7-3. The Gladiators are scheduled to face the Gateway Hawks in a playoff opener this Saturday at a field to be determined.
