School traffic might be affected by Beloit bridge closure

BELOIT — A major Rock River crossing in Beloit will close next week, and remain closed for a year.

Beloit City Manager Larry Arft tells Your Talk Show on WCLO the bridge will close for reconstruction next Tuesday and remain closed through Sept. 2012

Arft urges students and families who go to Beloit Memorial High School to plan alternate routes for this school year.

Arft says the new bridge will be more attractive and include four traffic lanes, a bike lane and a pedestrian lane.

When the bridge reopens, it will be named the Ken Hendricks Memorial Bridge, after the successful Beloit billionaire.
