— Parents who want their children to attend a Janesville public school outside the family's neighborhood school must file applications with the district by Dec. 15.

Application forms are available in school offices or at the Education Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St. A letter or phone call approving or denying the request will be mailed or made no later than Jan. 15, 2012.

Parents who reside in the district and would like to choose a school within the district but outside their home school attendance area can apply.

Parents who received approval for a transfer last year do not need to reapply unless their child is moving from elementary to middle school, or middle to high school.

The district also will consider changes in elementary childcare arrangements after June 30, 2012, for the 2012-13 school year.

Completed applications must be returned no later than December 15, 2011, for the 2012-13 school year.

Applications for elementary transfers must be returned to the Administrative Services office at the Educational Services Center. For more information about elementary transfers, call (608) 743-5006.

Applications also must be made for kindergarten students enrolling for the 2012-13 school year, including those with siblings currently approved for school transfer.

"While every effort is made to meet parent/guardian requests for kindergarten students to attend the same elementary school as pre-approved siblings, it is not guaranteed," the district said in a news release.

Applications for middle and high school transfers must be returned to the middle or high school in the attendance area in which the student currently resides. Those with questions are encouraged to discuss them with the principal at the student's current school.

These intra-district transfers are different from the state school-choice program, which allows students to attend school in a different school district. Signups for that program are from Feb. 6-24, 2012.
