JANESVILLE The Boys & Girls Club of Janesville is bringing out the big guns to raise money in its first annual “Clays for Kids” fundraiser.
The event will feature a clay shooting contest at Gehrig Clubs, 5110 N. Connor Road, Janesville, and a steak dinner after the contest.
Chad Sullivan, a boys and girls club board member and Janesville police officer, said the board wanted to get people excited about a different kind of fundraiser.
People can register teams of five to compete. The entry fee is $100 a person and includes 50 clays, a steak dinner and beverages. They also are offering the dinner separately for $25. Companies can register teams and become corporate sponsors as well. All proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club.
“A lot of people don’t think of shooting clays as a competitive sport,” Sullivan said. “That is the angle we’re going for … generate interest in the sport and to generate money for a great cause.”
Several teams from Rock County law enforcements agencies already have signed up for the contest. Sullivan and several other members of the Janesville police team were practicing in the scorching heat Wednesday night.
The contest is not just for law enforcement, anyone can sign up Sullivan said. An adult must accompany kids who are 14 to 18 years old.

The event is to support the Boys & Girls Club of Janesville which serves over 1200 kids annually with after school and summer programs. Both the Club and the YMCA are great organizations that do wonderful things for the community but they are separate non-profits that own different parts of the downtown facility.

Hi this is David Brazy. I just wanted to clarify the fundraiser is for the Boys and Girls Club of Janesville, not for the YMCA in general. There will be a clarification in tomorrow's paper.

Is this fundraiser supporting the YMCA *and* the Boys and Girls Club, or, the Boys and Girls club which is located in the YMCA building?
