Parker's Knutson falls in second round at state
MADISON Janesville Parker’s Matt Knutson’s WIAA state tennis run ended at the hands of a familiar opponent.
Madison East’s Stratton Gilmore, the No. 1 singles champion in the Big Eight Conference, defeated Knutson, 6-0, 6-1, in the round of 32 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Friday morning.
Knutson finished his senior season with a 19-9 record.
Lake Geneva Badger’s doubles team of Matt Heinz and Reid Solheim lost to Marquette University’s Jack Porritt and C.J. Armbrust in the round of 32, 6-3, 6-1. Porritt and Armbrust (21-2) won two other matches Friday to advance to today’s Division 2 semifinal match.
Heinz and Solheim finished 17-2.
