— People can pay their traffic tickets via the Internet or telephone after the Rock County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with an easy payment service.

Government Payment Service processes credit card payments for traffic and parking tickets, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The process is quick and reliable, with no need to wait in line or travel to make a payment, the sheriff’s office reported. Local and outside residents should benefit from the new system.

The service accepts most major credit cards, according to the sheriff’s office.

It allows the office to:

- Improve the rate and timeliness of collections

- Automate the payment and collections process to reduce administrative costs

- Collect payments immediately

- Track payments throughout the process with real-time reporting

- Collect proper documentation when processing payments

- Save taxpayer dollars by reducing credit card processing fees

- Save time and resources

If you don't want to pay for the convenience of the service don't use it. That seems pretty simple to me. Some people will be willing to pay for the convenience those who don't can pay their ticket the old way. It's just another option.

this is big joke. I'd rather they pay the small credit card fee than what they will charge for this so called service.. come on gagzette do a little investigative reporting and find out for us.

Just because there were 87 traffic stops does NOT mean 87 citations were issued. What is your point?

Sure, but with all the traffic stops going on (87 in one weekend as i recall the gazette saying) we're all gonna get one sooner or later.

Here's an idea you three whiners don't get a ticket and you won't have to worry about any of it.

Yeah, with a big honking surcharge added on to your payment! How "convenient" is that?

Now that's worthy of a press release, eh? What, no one wearing the McGruff costume and hanging around neighborhood watch meetings lately?

And by the way, where has that McGruff costume gotten off to anyway? Sure hope it wasn't pilfered by some furry fetish bunch! Now that would be embarrassing, wouldn't it?

I thought the same thing while reading the article. Sort of like the "counter fee" at the DMV. I would assume the transaction or counter fees are figured into the price of the ticket or whatever.

No mention of the additional transaction fee added on to the ticket.
