Man found in road with gun nearby arrested Sunday
MONROE Authorities arrested a man they found lying with a gun on a county road after he’d crashed his vehicle early Sunday, the Green County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The sheriff’s office reports that officers searched for Joshua C. Broge, 22, South Wayne, for more than an hour Sunday morning after finding his vehicle smashed into cement blocks on private property in the 7100 block of County Y west of Monroe.
At about 7 a.m., officers reportedly found Broge lying intoxicated in the road with a semiautomatic handgun near his head in the 7900 block of County Y.
The sheriff’s office reports that Broge got up and started to walk away carrying the gun, then fled into tall grass along the road when he heard emergency sirens approaching.
Officers called in tactical response teams and K-9 units from the Green County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Police Department and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. After a short search, Broge surrendered. The sheriff’s office reports the handgun was recovered nearby.
Broge was taken to Monroe Hospital for medical assistance and was later booked into the Green County Jail on charges of going armed while under the influence of an intoxicant and operating while intoxicated. An investigation and possible further charges are pending.
