Radical changes planned for dangerous Janesville intersection
Podcast Episode
A dangerous intersection in Janesville is getting some attention.
Public Works Director Carl Weber says a roundabout is being planned for Wuthering Hills Drive and Milwaukee Street on the east side. Weber says roundabouts eliminate the likelihood of T-bone type crashes. Weber says 11 crashes and one fatality have occurred at the intersection over three years.
A public information meeting is planned Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kennedy Elementary School.

Just who came up with the stupid idea of roundabouts in Wisconsin. The roundabout in front of Menard's is why I seldom go there.

Thanks, kidd. I thought that was supposed to be an answer for both issues.

Roundabouts are terrible things. If people knew the meaning of “right” of way they might no be so bad. Anyone who thinks they are a good idea has a screw loose. I do like to go like 35-40 east/west through the one at Menards though, everyone panics when the roundabout is properly used by jumping the island. Yield does not mean slow down.

Milwaukee street seems much slower since they changed the lanes. Why did they waste that money just to try something different again? There is no way they've gotten enough data in this short amount of time to prove it hasn't been working.

Have they monitored the speeds since they changed it to two lanes and added the speed radar displays? Have there been any accidents since then? If the problem has been solved, then a round-a-bout would be a waste of money. They need to make sure it is still needed!

How about doing the same at 5 Points and at the Milwaukee, Milton, Atwood intersection as well and then TEACH people the proper highway way to drive in a round-about (please yield to those already in the round-about, SIGNAL when you reach your exit street before turning off)? It's time most begin to realize that just as they would not like others to drive 40+mph through their quiet neighborhoods, there are hundreds who live on Milwaukee St. who have to put up with far too many who use it as a race track from the East to West side.

I thought that was the purpose of taking it from a 4-lane street to a 2-lane street.

gravitylens: The problem is the people who seem to think it is a freeway and speed excessively. Pull your head out of the sand it won't change much except the speed.

Finally! This should eliminate Milwaukee street's usefulness as a commercial thoroughfare for once and for all!
I'm tired of using caution and good judgement when taking my bike or car across a Highway.
