Janesville Parker’s Knutson, Craig’s Winter-McCrone to play at Madison
ELKHORN Matt Knutson of Janesville Parker High School is returning to the WIAA Division 1 individual state tennis tournament, beginning next Thursday at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.

“Matt deserves a ton of credit,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “His goal was to win the first match to get to state, and then he played extremely well in the second match. I’m very happy with the way Matt played.’’
Knutson lost to John Carswell (22-3) of Kenosha Tremper, 6-0, 6-0, in the sectional title match on the indoor courts.
Meanwhile, Janesville Craig’s doubles team of Stewart Winter and Mo McCrone finished fourth in Flight 1 en route to a state berth. Craig’s Joel Neher lost his Flight 1 quarterfinal singles match to Carswell, 6-0, 6-0.

The seniors are the first Cougars to qualify for the boys state tennis tournament in more than five years.
“They came out and took care of the first match, which is really the most important one,” Craig coach Justin Long said. “I knew they could be a state qualifying team when they played together.’’
