What it is: Work is well under way on the new department of public works garage on Northside Drive in Milton. The Milton City Council in June approved the future 30,000-square-foot facility. It will replace the existing 35-year-old garage at 620 W. Madison Ave.
The new facility also will double the amount of storage space for the department’s growing fleet of service vehicles, something Public Works Director Howard Robinson has said is sorely needed. Plans include an upgraded maintenance shop and in-floor radiant heat.
What’s the progress: Crews last week were finishing construction of the facility’s outer walls and working on the interior infrastructure. Robinson says construction will wrap up early next year, and that the department could begin moving in by January.
Cost: $3 million
Expected completion date: February 2012.

I went to look at the construction, truly impressive. Hopefully, it will serve Milton for many years.
