Beloit referendum could include reconfiguration of the grades
Podcast Episode
A referendum in Beloit could result in a reconfiguration of the grade levels. The district is considering putting pre-K students in the elementary schools, and putting fourth through eighth graders in intermediate schools. Kyle Geissler reports.
BELOIT Beloit's superintendent says a reconfiguration of the grades could be good for students and good for the district's finances.
Superintendent Steve McNeal says there could be academic benefits to putting pre-kindergarten through third graders in the elementary schools and fourth through eighth graders in intermediate schools.
He says the grade reconfiguration could allow the district to use its staff more efficiently.
The proposal could be part of a referendum the school board is considering. The referendum would pay for facilities maintenance and would not involve a tax increase because the district's debt on the high school is about to retire.
McNeal says he expects public meetings on the proposal to be scheduled soon.
