Brewers contribute to Kilar memorial

MILWAUKEE Treyton Kilar’s Field of Dreams received a $10,000 contribution Monday from the Milwaukee Brewers, bringing the family another step closer to building a memorial baseball field in Whitewater.
Mike Kilar, Treyton’s father, threw out the first pitch at Monday’s National League Championship Series game between the Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park. Treyton, 6, was killed Sept. 2, 2010, when a drunken driver hit the car he was riding at Highway 20 and County N in Walworth County.
The Kilar family said Treyton was a dedicated Brewers fan, and he dreamt of becoming a professional baseball player.
Prince Fielder—Treyton’s favorite player—caught Mike Kilar’s pitch Monday night. Treyton once met Fielder during a “Meet the Brewers” event. Fielder put his arm around the young fan, who donned Fielder’s No. 28 jersey, and took a picture with him.
Kilar was buried wearing the same Fielder jersey.
The Kilar family is raising money to build a youth baseball field honoring Treyton in Whitewater’s Starin Park, but the cost is expected to be nearly $474,000. The proposal this month won a $50,000 grant through the Pepsi Refresh Project, and after the Brewers’ donation the family has raised about $260,000.
Construction could begin as early as spring 2012, but the Whitewater City Council has not yet approved the project.

What a great story. The Kilar family has been through a lot in the last year, but Treyton can rest in peace knowing his family is fulfilling his dreams. Good luck to all of them in making this become a reality.
