The Rock County Juvenile Detention Center wants a new name to reflect a change in philosophy.

Rock County Juvenile Justice Division Manager Lance Horozewski says they're asking to change the name to the Youth Services Center. He says they've made a change in philosophy towards helping youth, positive reinforcement, and keeping youth close to home.

Horozewski says all staff members are now trained on a behavioral management program. He says the changes that have been made at the center are unique.

County officials take up the proposed name change for the Juvenile Detention Center this week.

We have by far the highest incarceration rate of any society in history. It's great that we're putting more and more of our kids in prison. The outcome of these policies will be great! Maybe we should call it the Liberty Center.

Political correctness is long away from juvenile criminals. All you want, is to think you are sending a positive message to those young individuals, but in reality, it is still juvey. This is like those individuals that want F's taken off grade reports because they feel it may hurt a child's feelings.

I see this name change as an unnecessary added expense that Rock county does not need at the moment. All because someone wants to, scratch that, thinks they are protecting someones feelings by changing a name in what they think is more positive.

After all this name changing is done, the only person coming out feeling better is Lance Horozewski. The kids in the system will still feel as if they are in Juvey. In which under any name, they are still in Juvey.

You looking for where that added expense is. Many paperwork forms will have to be changed. Headers, formats etc. Other areas that deal with the juvey hall will have to conform too. The labor costs of having to change everything over in all departments and areas that work with the juveniles. The signage on the front of the building will have to change. These are huge expenses. Expenses Rock County does not need.
