Area law enforcement agencies offer these safety tips for trick-or-treaters:

-- Trick-or-treat while it’s still light outside.

-- Never enter the home or vehicle of a person offering candy.

-- Don’t eat any treats until they can be inspected at home.

-- After dark, carry a flashlight and wear a light-colored costume or a costume marked with reflective tape.

They offer this advice for parents:

-- Make sure young children are accompanied by a responsible adult.

-- Children old enough and responsible enough to go out by themselves should have a cellphone and a curfew.

-- Dress children in costumes made of flame retardant material. For homemade costumes, use a fire retardant spray or fabric that has been treated with fire retardant.

-- Drive slowly and cautiously. Trick-or-treaters might run into the road, so be ready to stop suddenly.

Were the police paid to come up with this list?

Exactly frogger. Trick or treat should be on Sunday, which is what it is in my community. Having it on a school / work night is odd. Despite the unemployment rate a lot of people work & won't be home when the kids get off school & when it is still daylight.
