Parker offense not enough against Memorial
The Vikings scored five runs in the top of the seventh, but fell to the host Spartans, 13-9.
The Vikings had two runners on when the Spartans recorded the final out.
Sophomore shortstop Will Theisen led the Viking 14-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Aric Bobzien was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Brady Brandt was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
"Offensively, I was fairly happy," Parker coach Brian Martin said. "We had 14 hits and scored nine runs. In the past, that would have been to win a game."
Parker's young pitching staff was tested. Four pitchers were used, and they allowed eight walks and hit three batters.
"I knew we would struggle, but I didn't think it would be like this," Martin said. "You put 11 or 12 guys on base, added to our three errors, and it makes it easy for them to score runs."
Memorial (3-0, 1-0) opened a 6-0 lead after three innings, but the Vikings responded with a four-run fourth.
Hunter Marshall had the key hit in the inning with a bases-loaded triple. Vernon Franklin then singled home Marshall.
But the Vikings couldn't hold the Spartans, who built a 13-4 lead before the late surge.
Parker returns to Big Eight action Thursday with a 5 p.m. contest against Middleton at Riverside Park.
