U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., Chairman of the House Budget Committee, right, addresses an audience as Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, left, looks on during a Romney campaign event at an oil company in Milwaukee, Monday, April 2, 2012.

— A leading House Republican said Tuesday he hasn't had a discussion with Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney about taking the No. 2 spot on the ticket this fall.

Wisconsin's Congressman Paul Ryan said the subject hasn't come up, but said he enjoys working with the former Massachusetts governor, whom he has endorsed.

But on the matter of joining Romney on the ticket, Ryan told NBC's "Today" show that he hasn't "given enough thought to that question."

"I think he still has to go through the process of nailing it down. He still has opponents," Ryan said.

He suggested that Romney is miscast politically because he served as governor of Massachusetts, a state with a liberal tradition, saying, "he reminds me of a sort of earnest, upper Midwest person." Ryan said that Romney "has the principles, the skills, the skills" to govern the country and put the economy on a stronger footing.

In a separate interview on MSNBC, Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, accused President Barack Obama of "putting us on the path to a debt crisis."

Ryan said the budget House Republicans are proposing would spare people 55 and over from cuts in programs like Medicare.

"The question is, do we reform these benefit programs ... or do we kick the can down the road," the Wisconsin Republican added.

Conservative Politics, 'Low-Effort' Thinking Linked In New Study

As The Huffington Post reported in February, a study published in the journal "Psychological Science" showed that children who score low on intelligence tests gravitate toward socially conservative political views in adulthood--perhaps because conservative ideologies stress "structure and order" that make it easier to understand a complicated world.

Ouch.

And now there's the new study linking conservative ideologies to "low-effort" thinking.

"People endorse conservative ideology more when they have to give a first or fast response," the study's lead author, University of Arkansas psychologist Dr. Scott Eidelman, said in a written statement released by the university.

"Rob Zerban will dismantle the thin-skinned Ryan in debates for the House seat."
.
Big deal.
Ryan will still win easily, as incumbents with $$ always do. Debates are vastly over rated. Only the real inside baseball people even watch them, and most all those people are decided voters. You can name your odds on this guy if you wish, and I'd be happy to book any action in reason ;-)

I'm with you on the GOP's "worse PR on the planet". They're not dumb just blind to the fact that they need to step up and do a much better job communicating with the masses. They can't keep letting the democrats hoodwink the public (especially women and minorities) with their brilliant demagoguery.

The GOP is not smart enough to put Ryan in the no. 2 spot. They will do something dumb like putting Palin, Quayle or Cheney in that spot, let's face it they have a track record of bad decisions and possibly the worst PR on the planet.

I have a suggestion for all your "chronic" complainers on these blogs. Why don't you all meet at some restaurant or conference room and spew your venim at each other in person??? Give the rest of us a break from your non-stop crap that is repetitive and boring!! All of you sound like a frigging broken record. Some are truly pathetic, downright nasty. I hope none of you have kids because I would hate to think they're just like you. Maybe find a different hobby other than blogging.

"Rob Zerban will dismantle..."
-
He first needs a plan. So far the majority of his speech, TV interviews, and his website are all about Ryan. Claiming there is a problem with no solution is nothing better than posters on these pages. If he is going to run for a job at least have the ability to say what YOU will do instead of just complaining.

For the anti Ryan people, unfortunately he can still run for his congressional seat even if he is on the VP ticket. All with a brain know that Stiff Romney will be SMASHED by Obama in November. So if Ryan were on this 'ticket to nowhere', he'd simply go back to congress (as he'll always win this district rather easily) after the trouncing.
.
Marco Rubio would be the only real candidate that would give Stiff Romney any real boost. It would get him a little more support with Latino voters (a voting segment that is growing in leaps and bounds) and a segment where Stiff Romney is getting SMASHED (like 70-30). Plus Rubio would help him in the key battle ground state of Florida. Still won't be anywhere near enough; however. Stiff Romney has ZERO enthusiasm, and Obama is killing him in ALL the key battle ground states. Santorum and Paul actually poll better vs Obama then does Romney in all the big battle ground states.
GREAT CHOICE republicans!

Domino - Did you see the wine list at the White House or how about the $40,000 per plate dinner at George Clooney's house for Obama? Besides, Its HIS money, what do you care what he does with HIS money. Whenever Ryan's name comes up this topic comes up and has gotten real old - and a hypocritical arguement.

Vato- I agree they shouldnt be left out and they should be taken care of. However , why do you view some HUMAN BEINGS as superior than others? While serving their country is certainly noble, social safety net should be available for all Americans in need, stress the word need.
By your past logic, the vets that are getting food stamps are getting it because of AFDC and the democrats forwarding a welfare / poverty society right?

Vato, what happened to the money the government collected in taxes including the $15.5 trillion we did not, but instead borrowed and spent? Was it all burned in a campfire and gone forever? How much of what people earned was money that we as a nation borrowed and spent for? If so, who pays it back? When? Those that have little to nothing? Can everybody be rich? How does lowering tax rates for those that confiscated the most, help us as a nation to start paying it back?

Came an Irishman one day.

Sure, everyone was gay,

Till Paddy got excited,
Then he shouted to them there:

Mitt Rommney is in a tough spot. You never want the VP to be more charismatic and outshine the President. Paul Ryan would do just that. Either way, it's looking Obama for four more years. The overall numbers might be close, but look at the key battle ground states. Most heavy leans to Obama.
