Dean Clinic-Edgerton is holding an open house from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 19. The event is for the public to see the clinic and learn more about its operations.

The clinic is attached to Edgerton Hospital, 11051 N. Sherman Road.

— When Dean Clinic-Edgerton opens next week on the campus of Edgerton Hospital, it will give patients a one-stop option for healthcare, Dean officials say.

The new, 13,000 square-foot clinic at 11051 N. Sherman Road, Edgerton, has been under construction for months. It replaces the current Edgerton Dean Clinic at 1011 N. Main St.

The new clinic opens Monday.

The move melds patient care at Dean Clinic with hospital operations, further cementing a three-way affiliation between Dean Health Systems, SSM Health Care of Wisconsin and Edgerton Hospital, officials say.

The new clinic is physically connected to Edgerton Hospital. The arrangement is intended to increase efficiency in patient care and to handle an increase in demand for outpatient services in Edgerton, said Dean spokesman Dan Fredricks.

For example, the clinic and hospital will more easily and quickly share patient records and laboratory information.

Perhaps the biggest change is that patient health care will be consolidated at one location, Dean officials said.

"They (patients) will no longer need to make a trip across town," said Dean Clinic Regional Director Nancy Ford.

The new clinic will offer 15 exam rooms compared to 12 at the existing clinic. It will retain current staffing, including three family physicians and visiting specialists in neurology, OB/GYN, general surgery, urology, cardiology and podiatry.

The clinic also will have an internal medicine physician and a physician's assistant, and will house a Dean Clinics regional business office.

The former clinic is up for sale, Fredricks said.

Edgerton Hospital is owned in part by SSM, which also is a partner of Dean Clinics. About 95 percent of Dean Clinics is physician-owned, according to Gazette reports. Through an affiliation, SSM owns about 5 percent of Dean and about half of Dean Health Plan, according to Gazette reports.

The linking of the Dean clinics with the hospital reflects a local trend. St. Mary's Janesville Hospital, also an SSM operation, has an attached Dean Clinic.

Dean's decision to locate at Edgerton Hospital was partly due to location and the shared affiliation with SSM, said Fredricks.

"It's just another way of us (Dean), (SSM) St. Mary's and Edgerton Hospital connecting. It's three links of a chain," Fredricks said.

Dean and SSM are in ongoing talks about a possible merger or the prospect of SSM's acquisition of Dean.
