— Martin and Kathleen O'Brien, charged with physically abusing their adopted Russian children, moved for a substitution of judge Tuesday at a scheduled arraignment in Walworth County Court.

Judge John Race ordered a different judge be appointed and continued the case. No date for future proceedings was set.

The O'Briens were scheduled to enter a plea at Tuesday's arraignment. The arraignment will take place after a different judge is appointed, Race said.

The O'Briens are charged with multiple felony counts of child abuse by intentionally causing harm to their six adopted children, all from Russia. They were ordered to stand trial after Race ruled July 6 probable cause existed to continue the case to trial.

At Tuesday's proceeding, it was announced that Kathleen O'Brien had a new attorney, Pamela S. Moorshead of Glendale. She replaces Stephen R. Kramer, who represented her during the preliminary hearing.

Martin O'Brien continues to be represented by Kathleen B. Stilling of Brookfield.
