Beloit Snappers’ offense pulls through

BELOIT — The Beloit Snappers blew a 6-0 lead Wednesday, but bounced back to secure an 8-6 victory over the visiting Kane County Cougars in Midwest League baseball.

The Snappers led 6-0 after four innings, but the Cougars rallied for five runs in the fifth and scored the game tying run in the seventh.

Beloit took back the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh. Kennys Vargas drew a walk to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Stephen Wickens singled Vargas to third. Vargas scored to put Beloit ahead for good, 7-6, on JaDamion Williams’s sacrifice fly.

Beloit’s Tyler Grimes tripled to open the eighth inning and scored on Nate Roberts’ single for the final outcome.

Beloit closer Zachary Jones kept Kane County hitless through the final 1 2-3 innings for his second save. Mason Melotakis (2-1), the Snappers’ third pitcher, took the victory, allowing two hits and no runs in 2-3 innings.
