— Roadwork is wrapping up at a few key intersections along Highway 26 between Janesville and Milton, and work will soon start on a pedestrian bridge at Janesville's north end, state officials say.

Lance Wagner, project manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Highway 26 expansion, said workers have removed the barrier wall that has separated north and south lanes at Highway 26 and McCormick Drive.

Crews are expected to complete the left turn lane from the north lanes of Highway 26 to McCormick Drive by the end of the week, Wagner said.

Work is near completion at the intersection of John Paul Road and McCormick. New asphalt and permanent pavement markings should be in place within the next two weeks, Wagner said.

Further south, near the intersection of Highway 26 and John Paul Road, motorists will soon see crews working on a pedestrian bridge planned just south of M&I Bank.

Further north along Highway 26, roundabouts at Harmony Town Hall are taking shape and workers have poured the first sidewalk at the Harmony Town Hall Bridge. They plan to pour the concrete deck for the Wright Road Bridge as early as Friday.

The Harmony Town Hall/Highway 26 interchange is on schedule to open by Oct. 1, but continued good weather could lead to the interchange opening by the start of the school year.
