Craig, Parker tennis lose
Craig High opened the Big Eight Conference girls tennis season Thursday with a 6-1 loss to Madison West, 6-1.
Leah Voskuil and Miranda Mishleau notched Craig's lone victory at No. 1 doubles.
Craig coach Bill Peyer said West is one of three teams that are favored to win the Big Eight title.
"It's West, Middleton and East again," Peyer said. "They are pretty even.''
Voskuil and Mishleau return at No. 1 doubles for the Cougars along with Hayley Hughes and Kenzie Trappe at No. 2 doubles.
Kaylee Rossing returns at No. 1 singles and Courtney Speigler returns at No. 2 singles. Brande Farrell, a senior, and Olivia Bolton, a junior, will see singles play along with Ali Waddell.
Craig hosts an invitational today and Saturday. Play begins at 9 a.m. at Craig, Parker and Milton.

Parker loses opener
Parker High fell 5-2 to visiting Madison Memorial in a Big Eight girls tennis opener Thursday.
Meghann Hoag and Emma Frerichs notched Parker's victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Parker singles players Becky Harmata, Hoag, Megan Mitchell and Frerichs return from last season.
The biggest loss for the Vikings is Maddie Theisen and Kristen Zeilinger at No. 1 doubles. The pair finished their career 31-2 at No. 1 doubles last season. Theisen and Zeilinger were the Vikings' No. 1 doubles team for four years.
