Driver accused in Highway 11 fatal crash still hospitalized
TOWN OF JANESVILLE A Janesville woman accused of causing a fatal car crash while driving drunk remains in stable condition in a Madison hospital, according to Rock County Sheriff's Office records.
Tara A. Carlson, 39, of 1109 Harmony Circle NW, Janesville, was arrested Saturday on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and three counts of causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle. She is accused of running a stop sign at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Highway 11 and County B in the town of Janesville, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.
Carlson's car collided with a vehicle driven by Randall J. Owens, 64, Footville, according to the news release. A passenger in Owens' vehicle, James M. Menard, 64, Chicago, was pronounced dead at the scene. Owens and two passengers, Ellen Owens, 56, and Ruth A. Coyle, 57, Chicago, were treated and released at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville.
Carlson was transported by helicopter Saturday to University Hospital, Madison, where she remained in stable condition.
An intoxicated driving citation was filed again Carlson on Monday in Rock County Court, according to online court records.
Felony charges are pending while she remains hospitalized.
