— The Janesville Bluebirds broke out of a season-long slump Thursday night.

Braden Perkins had two goals, including the game-winner late in the third period, to lift Janesville's high school boys co-op hockey team to a 4-3 Big Eight Conference win over Madison Memorial.

Janesville (1-4, 1-1) picked up its first win of the season after starting the season 0-4.

"We could be 4-1 right now but it is what it is," Janesville coach John Mauermann said. "The difference tonight was that we made plays down the stretch, especially Tyler (Lewis) in goal. He made a couple of great saves late.

"Hopefully this win gets us headed in the right direction."

The Bluebirds trailed 3-2 after two periods but got goals from Ethan Eno and Perkins in the third.

Janesville plays at Middleton on Tuesday night.
