Officials investigating Afton armed robbery
AFTON The Rock County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday at the Friendly Village Bar, 5321 S. County D.
According to a sheriff's office news release, a man entered the bar at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, displayed a gun and demanded the bartender give him money from the cash register. When the bartender complied, the subject fled on foot without incident.
Despite Wednesday's incident involving a lone robber, Commander Troy Knudson said there are similarities in the description with an incident last month in Beloit Township. In that incident, two robbers attacked and robbed an elderly couple in their home on Nov. 14.
"In both cases the suspects were described as wearing masks," he said. "That is a similarity, but not the same."
Knudson explained that the two men in the town of Beloit incident wore Halloween masks, while Afton's suspect wore a hockey mask.
"It is certainly something we're going to have to take a good look at and it's an opportunity for us (the sheriff's office and Beloit police) to work together,'' Knudson said.
"It's a little premature to say they (the robberies) are connected, but certainly it's something to take a look at," he said.
