I've stopped watching the news coverage of what happened out east, not because I don't care because I do. I couldn't and hope I never have to mourn the loss of my child for any reason but I've stopped watching the coveragge because now all its about is ratings. We as American's always feel we need to blame someone or something to make ourselves feel better. There is no quick fix, law or bill to be passed to stop or prevent this from happening again.
The problem is, we as American's have changed society to accept everything. We've become a society that repetitively forgives kids when they continue to commit crimes hoping someday they will change but we are afraid of hurting their feelings because after all, their just a kid. We've become a society that allows video games and cell phones to baby sit our kids or give us free time to relax and not have to deal with them. We've become a society that blames their teachers for why they act up and are unwilling to do their work and become a productive member of society. We've become a society that doesn't see anything wrong with kids having kids and see planned parenthood as contraception and abortion instead of planned parenting, meaning if you're not able or willing to put everything you've got on the line to support and raise your child to know right from wrong and not depend on anyone else to do it for you, then either get an education so you can get a good job so you can support your child, get fixed or keep it in your pants or your legs closed. We as a society have allowed the media to sensationalize anything bad that happens because we are glued to the TV to see/hear every detail. All this does is cause other nut jobs to want to one up the last one and become famous because they don't have anything to live for.
These are only a few things I feel is causing society to crash and burn. We as a people have allowed the overall morals to slip. My belief is everything starts in the home. If we are truely engaged in our kids activities and friends they hang out with throughout their upbringing, the percentages are much higher they will become a productive member of society and teach their kids the same. There will always be bad apples and pure evil in this world, but I'm a firm believer in everything starts in the home. It's our job to be parents first and worry about being their friend later when they've become something we can be proud of.
