Man charged after leaving overdosing friend in park

JANESVILLE — A Janesville man faces felony charges and is accused of leaving a man overdosing on heroin on the ground in a Janesville park in September.
David J. Gonzales, 26, of 4700 E. Highway 14, No. 12, is charged with party to second-degree recklessly endangering safety and party to delivery of heroin. His girlfriend pleaded guilty to similar charges earlier this month.
Janesville police were dispatched Sept. 14 to Lustig Park where they found a man without a pulse sprawled on the edge of the parking lot, according to the criminal complaint.
Emergency responders revived the man, and he was transported to a local hospital. He later told police he had called Gonzales' girlfriend, Jennie Miller, earlier that day and arranged to buy heroin, according to the criminal complaint.
Miller drove with Gonzales and the other man to Lustig Park, where they used the heroin, according to the complaint.
Miller and Gonzales saw the man pass out. Gonzales jumped from the parked truck and tried to wake the man.
Gonzales pulled the man from the truck and told Miller to call 911.
A group of people walked over to see what was happening, and Miller drove off. She did call 911, according to the complaint.
Miller on Dec. 5 pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and delivering heroin. She was sentenced to five years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer on Thursday set Gonzales' bond at $500. Earlier in the week, Court Commissioner Charles Holznecht set bond at $750 on charges of felony heroin possession after Gonzales was arrested Dec. 16 in Janesville.
