— Four newcomers have taken out papers to challenge the three incumbents in April's elections for Janesville School Board.

They are:

-- Diane Eyers, 44, of 3320 LaMancha Drive, an insurance agent with an accounting background.

-- Fred Jackson, 39, of 217 S. Pontiac Drive, who works as an analyst for Eaton Corp. in Watertown.

-- JT Lichtfuss, 34, of 1216 N. Randall Ave., who described himself as an author and speaker who advises individuals, companies and non-profits in conflict resolution.

-- Cathy Myers, 50, of 515 St. Lawrence Ave., who teaches English at Hononegah High School in Rockton, Ill.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, to file nomination papers.

The three incumbents—Karl Dommershausen, Kristin Hesselbacher and Peter Severson—indicated earlier that they would run again.

Candidates can obtain the required papers between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays from Debra Blazer, assistant board clerk, at the Educational Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St. The office will be closed, however, on Monday and Tuesday.

Papers must include nomination petitions with at least 100 but no more than 200 signatures. Call Blazer at 608-743-5056 for more information.

I am mostly concerned with the news that science teacher Sean Hildebrandt will be leaving. I wonder what happened? He was the only teacher at Parker that could actually teach science in a decent manner and could connect with kids.

I think it's great when citizens come forward and are willing to run for office. It's healthy for the community Ito have new perspectives.
