Duo spark UW-Whitewater win
WHITEWATER Mary Merg and Chantel Burg scored 16 points apiece Wednesday to pace UW-Whitewater to a 71-61 victory over UW-La Crosse in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball.
The victory lifts Whitewater to 8-4 in the WIAC and 16-5 overall. La Crosse falls to 7-4 and 14-6.
Whitewater closed a sluggish first half with a 31-25 lead. La Crosse fought back to take a 37-36 lead with 17 minutes to play in the second half, but it was the Eagles only lead of the game.
Whitewater made 12 of 33 shots in the second half and 3 of 6 three-point attempts to keep La Crosse at bay. Whitewater scored 27 points off La Crosse turnovers.
