JANESVILLE A Rock County prosecutor is withdrawing from the race for Walworth County district attorney.
Richard Sullivan, 42, Walworth, said Thursday he changed his mind for family reasons.
"It's just not the right time with a very young family to be running or the office at this time," Sullivan said.
Sullivan has been an assistant district attorney in Rock County for 14 years. He announced Dec. 2 he was planning to run as a Republican to succeed Phil Koss, who after 21 years as Walworth County district attorney is running for Walworth County judge.
"I have a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old, and they need Daddy's time," Sullivan said Thursday.
He said circumstances have changed since early December, but he declined to elaborate.
"It's all based on my family," Sullivan said. "I certainly don't foreclose on the chance of serving in a different way than I do now in the future, but at this time, I have to focus on my family first."
Sullivan's withdrawal leaves Dan Necci, 31, Delavan, as the only attorney who has announced an intention to run for Walworth County district attorney.
He announced Jan. 20 that he intends to run as a Republican.
The election is Nov. 6. A primary, if necessary, would be Aug. 14.
