Police investigating fires as arsons
JANESVILLE Police are investigating as arsons two weekend residential fires. Investigators do not have suspects at this time, Lt. Keith Lawver said.
The first fire was reported at 11:15 p.m. Saturday at 2240 Pioneer Road, a single-family home with a detached garage. The garage was destroyed along with at least two vehicles.
The second was reported about an hour later in a vacant home at 264 S. Franklin St., Janesville. Both fires were reported as suspicious on Sunday.
The fires are more than three miles apart. They do not appear to be connected, Lawver said.
No one was injured in the fires. The amount of damage still is under investigation in both cases, he said.
"It appears as though they were intentionally set," Lawver said. "We have found no evidence that they started on their own because of an electrical failure or other hazard."
