Armed man surrenders peacefully

JANESVILLE — Residents on Sunday night were evacuated in the neighborhood of the 1300 block of Center Avenue for almost an hour while Janesville police responded to a report of an armed man.

The 41-year-old had called the 911 Communications Center around 10 p.m. and said he had a loaded firearm, according to a department news release.

Officer Sean Jauch made contact with the man over the phone and was able to talk him into coming out of his house. The man turned himself over to police and was quietly taken into custody.

Center Avenue was closed to through traffic between Mitchell and Wolcott Streets during the incident, said a department spokesman.
