UW-Rock teams lose in tourney

The season came to end Wednesday night for the UW-Rock County women’s basketball team.

UW-Marshfield made 10 three-point baskets in pulling away for a 77-59 win in a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinal game.

Rock County, which finished 14-13, fell behind early and could not recover. The Rattlers finished the game with only three players on the court.

“They shot the ball very well and that was the difference,” Rock County coach Scott Lee said. “Marshfield made a run to start the second half, and we could not come back from it.

“It’s a tough way to end the season, but I’m very proud of this team. They did a lot of good things considering we were shorthanded as far as numbers go for most of the season.”

KiKi Smith led Rock County with 25 points, while Janesville Craig graduate Lindsey Oliver finished with 17.

Rock County, which finished 8-18, trailed by nine at half but tied the game at 42-42 with seven minutes left. Marathon went on a 5-0 run late.

Andy Hanus added 11 points for Rock County, and Kyle Woodworth chipped in 10.
