Janesville Craig High School wrestlers did a lot of good things Saturday at the Big Eight Duals but defeating Sun Prairie was not one of them.

The Cougars suffered a disappointing, 38-36, loss to the Cardinals and with it lost the meet championship.

“It’s very frustrating to lose to Sun Prairie,” Craig coach Mark Mullen said. “Many of our guys wrestled with a lot of heart, but it’s disappointing to lose such a close match for the second straight year.’’

Sun Prairie finished 4-0, while Craig went 3-1. Beloit Memorial took fourth.

“We lost three matches in the middle,” Mullen said. “That pretty much gave them the win.’’

Kyle LaCaptain (132), Zach Mulrooney (160) and Nate Mather (182) went 4-0. Anthony Skrede, Zack Kurtz (195-220), Drew Grassi (220) and Arick Fuerseth (106) went 3-1. Chris Reynolds (113) went 2-0 for Craig.

Craig hosts Parker at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Parker finishes second

Janesville Parker High School finished runner-up Saturday at the Big Eight Multi-Dual at Middleton.

The Vikings lost 58-11 to Middleton, in the second round. The Cardinals went on to defeat Madison Memorial and Verona for the title.

Parker defeated Memorial, 60-9, Verona, 42-34 and Madison West, 40-31.
