Beloit Snappers snap losing streak
BELOIT The Beloit Snappers defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 4-3, on Sunday to snap a four-game losing streak in Midwest League baseball.
The Snappers won despite collecting only three hits.
Miguel Sano’s 18th homer, a solo shot in the eighth inning, was the winning margin. Sano also singled and scored on a throwing error in the first inning as Beloit took a 2-0 lead and scored the tying run in the sixth on Steven Liddle’s double.
Cedar Rapids led 3-2 after three innings. Beloit starter Matthew Summers lasted
5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Reliever Tyler Jones (1-2) held the Kernels scoreless on three hits through 2 1/3 innings for the victory. Snappers closer Corey Williams pitched a perfect ninth for his 11th save.
Game two of the three-game series is at 7 tonight.
