Beloit Snappers come from behind to edge Kernels

BELOIT — Jonathan Goncalves doubled home Steve Liddle in the eighth inning to give the Beloit Snappers a come-from-behind 6-5 victory Monday over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in Midwest League baseball.

Goncalves also tripled in his 3-for-4 performance to lead the Snappers’ nine-hit attack.

Cedar Rapids scored five unearned runs in the in the fourth inning on three singles and two Snappers’ errors to take a 5-1 lead.

Beloit cut the deficit to 5-4, scoring three runs in the fifth on a triple, double, RBI ground ball, two singles and a sacrifice fly. Drew Leachman scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to tie the game, 5-5.

Ryan O’Rourke (2-3) earned the win for Beloit. O’Rourke blanked the Kernels on two hits through three innings of relief. Snappers closer Corey Williams allowed two hits in the ninth, but held on to collect his 12th save.
