Janesville 11s win state title
JANESVILLE Janesville strung three wins together to earn the 11-year-old Cal Ripken state championship at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex.
Janesville blanked West Middleton, 12-0, Sunday in the championship game. Janesville defeated Cross Plains, 14-0, and Verona, 4-1, to reach the title game.
Jordan Bailey socked a solo homer to get Janesville rolling in the title game. Bailey went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as Janesville scored in every inning.
Jacob Campbell had two hits and drove in four runs and Ross March added two hits, including a double, for Janesville.
Dan Blomgren pitched a complete-game shutout and was named the Most Valuable Opponent by the West Middleton coaching staff.
The Janesville 11s advance to the Ohio Valley
Regional on July 25-29 in Elizabethtown, Ky.
The Janesville team members are: Dan Blomgren, Jacob Campbell, JJ Brennan, Ben Coulter, Jacob Fieiras, Ryan Herbst, Jacob Lynch, Ross March, Sam Nemetz and Nick Schuster. Janesville coaches are: Pat Campbell, Brian Bailey, Jim Coulter, Vic Herbst and Dave Nemetz.
Babe Ruth 14s
The Janesville 14-year-olds defeated Middleton, 13-5, to advance to tonight’s Babe Ruth tournament championship game against host Eau Claire.
Hunter VanZandt, Chase Nyborg and Zach Bailey had three hits apiece to lead Janesville’s 15-hit attack. VanZandt drove in five runs, Bryce Pass notched three RBIs and Bailey added two RBIs. Adam Carlson and Connor Osmond had two hits apiece.
Connor Perkins allowed four runs on four hits for Janesville.
Cal Ripken 12s
The Janesville 12-year-old team defeated Middleton, 11-3, Sunday to advance to the state championship game Tuesday in Neenah.
Noah Berghammer belted a three-run homer and a double, and Luke Malmanger tripled to lead Janesville. Nick Cramer allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked a pair in going the distance for the victory.
Cal Ripken 10s
Janesville’s 10-year-old Cal Ripken team defeated Mount Horeb, 14-0, and Cross Plains, 16-3, but lost in the winner’s bracket, 9-8, to Green Bay.
Jared Emerson went 3-for-4 with a double and Mitchell Woelfle was 2-for-3 with a double against Green Bay.
Janesville plays the winner of Bayport-Stevens Point on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Janesville Sports Complex. Janesville must win three straight games to win the state title.
White Sox win local title
The White Sox defeated the Braves, 10-7, for the Vic Lipke end-of-season tournament championship. The White Sox defeated the Orioles and the Indians to reach the title game.
The White Sox won the league championship and finished the season 18-5.
