— Rock County Sheriff's Office officials are investigating the violent death of a horse in far eastern Rock County.

The owner reported the horse's death to investigators at 8:40 a.m. Saturday. The horse was killed overnight in the 10000 block of Highway 14, Avalon, the owner told deputies. The property is in the town of Bradford west of the Walworth County line.

The owner does not know of a motivation for the animal's death, said Capt. Jude Maurer with the sheriff's office.

"The horse was friendly," Maurer said. "They said it would have come up to the fence to anybody."

Maurer encouraged anyone with information to call the Rock County Sheriff's Office at (608) 757-2244.
