Janesville Legion falls at Plover
PLOVER Janesville’s American Legion baseball team came up short in its bid to win the Plover Tournament on Sunday.
Plover scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 5-2 win over Post 205 in the first semifinal game of the tournament.
Janesville (26-13) managed nine hits but also struck out nine times.
“We only had one inning where we put any hits together and that was the third,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said. “Their pitcher is their ace and is going to play for the Wisconsin Select team next week.
“It was a tough loss today, but we’re in pretty good shape pitching-wise heading into the District tournament next week.”
Janesville opens double-elimination district play Wednesday against Kenosha at Genoa City.
