Kenosha scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to end Janesville’s American Legion baseball season, 6-5, Friday night in the District AAA tournament.
Kenosha scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-all in the ninth and runners were on first and second with two outs. The next batter swung and missed on a 3-2 pitch in the dirt. The catcher’s throw pulled the first baseman off the bag, and he dived to tag the bag with his glove.
The base umpire called the runner safe and in the ensuing moments, the runner on second scored the winning run.
“We had missed opportunities,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said of the team’s season-ending loss. “We had a good season, and the kids made Janesville Legion baseball relevant in the state again.”
Janesville’s Brady Brandt had a two-run double in the second inning, and Charlie Meyer had a two-run double in the seventh.
Janesville finished with a 26-15 record.
