— Craig High lost 7-2 to Westosha Central in a WIAA Division 1 regional softball final Friday to conclude its season.

Craig finished 17-7 overall. The Falcons advance to a sectional semifinal at Wilmot.

Westosha hammered Craig starter Paige Weber with 13 hits, while Falcons starting pitcher Sarah Funk (15-0) stopped Craig on two hits.

“We just got beat by a better team,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “Paige (Weber) was not just laying them in there. (Westosha) is a very disciplined hitting team, and they had some good at-bats.’’

“We played about as solid a game as we can play tonight,” said Westosha co-coach Tom Lampe. “You could see at practice that they were starting to get it going again. The girls are playing at a top level at just the right time.”

Westosha rolled to a 7-0 lead before Craig scored its first run in the sixth inning.

“We didn’t do much the first four innings,” Bayreuther said. “We started to get it together, but it was too little, too late.’’

Weber, Stephanie Kalish, Autum Sullivan, Haley Bayreuther, Stephanie Perleberg and Shelby Hanewold wore the Cougars uniform for the last time.
